Rev. Sr. Mary Gorret Kenda Tugumenawe Among Two Killed in Rubanda Road Crash

Rubanda: Two people have died and several others sustained serious injuries following a road crash along the Kabale-Kisoro road in Rubanda District.

The crash occurred on September 21, at around 2:00 p.m. in Murutenga Village, Hamurwa Sub-county, when a Toyota Noah, registration number UAX 824H, overturned several times.

According to the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, the vehicle was reportedly travelling at a high speed while descending a steep slope when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn.

One of the victims died at the scene and has been identified as 58-year-old Rev. Sr. Tugumenawe Mary Gorret Kenda, who was attached to Rushoroza Catholic Diocese in Kabale District.

Another unidentified male passenger died shortly after arriving at Rubanda Hospital.

Several other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment. They include 47-year-old Katushabe Jenerus, a resident of Nyakabungo Village in Kishanje Parish, Bufundi Sub-county, Rubanda District; 30-year-old Hakiza Abed, a Rwandan national; and 54-year-old Garuka Hamis.
