Tragic accident claims life in Kanungu
Kanungu: Police in Kanungu are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 40 year old Edson Kanyakole, a resident of Katete sub-county in Kanungu district.
It is alleged that the deceased was knocked by a speeding car Reg no UBJ100J Hillux double cabin that belongs to Kedifise bank Kanungu branch.
The accident occurred on September 15, 2024 at around 07:30pm at
Kabashaki cell along Kanungu-Kihihi road in Kirima sub-county.
A statement released by the Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate indicates that on the fateful day, the deceased left his home in Katete sub-county to Mitoma district to pay a visit to a friend only identified as Sabiti.
At around 06:00pm, he disappeared from Sabiti to an unknown destination and at around 07:30pm while drunk in the middle of the road, was knocked by the speeding vehicle and sustained injuries.
He was rushed to Katete health center IV where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
ASP Maate further reveals that police upon receiving information on September 16, 2024 from Mukwatangabo Habib Twaha an employee of Kidefise bank, visited and documented the scene.
Postmortem was conducted and the body has since been handed over to relatives for a decent burial.
The vehicle was impounded for further investigations, and police have already launched a manhunt for the driver is on the run.
A case of hit and run accident has been registered at Kanungu Police Station under REF 17/15/09/2024.
