Rukungiri Municipality Launches Elections for PDM SACCO Committees

Rukungiri: Officials in Rukungiri Municipality have begun meetings to elect new committee members for Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCOs, in a move aimed at strengthening the initiative across the area.

The meeting, held at Rwakabengo Catholic Church in Southern Division on April 23, 2026, marked the start of a series of engagements that will be conducted across the municipality.

Speaking during the meeting, the Rukungiri Municipal Commercial Officer, Pele Owoyesigire, said the exercise is intended to elect a vetting committee of three members. The committee will be responsible for receiving and reviewing applications from candidates interested in joining the Board of Governors and Supervisory Committee. These candidates will later be voted for during the Annual General Meeting.

Owoyesigire emphasized that the process is aimed at improving the performance of PDM SACCOs in the municipality. He also urged beneficiaries to prioritize timely repayment of PDM loans, noting that this will strengthen the program and enable more people to benefit.

The Chairperson of Rwakabengo PDM SACCO, Hanifah Matovu, praised the government for its continued support to residents. She revealed that the SACCO has so far supported 363 beneficiaries and is expecting more funding to extend loans to additional members.

Matovu added that loan repayment among beneficiaries is improving, with at least one member already clearing their loan fully. She encouraged others to follow suit and pay back on time to promote development in the community.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Mwebaze, one of the newly elected members of the vetting committee, thanked members for entrusting her with the responsibility. She pledged to work closely with fellow SACCO members to ensure transparency and development.

Mwebaze also appreciated the government for supporting the initiative and called on beneficiaries to use the loans wisely in order to improve their livelihoods.
