Rain wreaks havoc in Rugongi, Rukungiri.
Rukungiri: Locals in Rugongi cell, Rwentondo ward, eastern Division, Rukungiri municipality are counting losses after a heavy downpour characterised by a storm wreacked havoc in their area.
During an interview with our reporter, one of the affected farmers who is also the Rugongi cell chairperson, Denis Muhumuza disclosed that their crops like Banana plantations, avocados and sugar cane gardens were left down in evening of Thursday May 30, 2024 after the rain that lasted for close to an hour.
Muhumuza advised residents to work tirelessly to revive their banana plantations and other crops which will later combat famine.
The 79 year old Petero Mutabazi who was also affected expressed worry of famine outbreak and dip in his future family income since his banana plantation, sugar cane garden and fruit trees were destroyed.
He now wants the government to intervene and save the situation.
