
Man Dies After Wife Hits Him With Hoe in Domestic Fight
Rubanda: Police in Rubanda District are investigating a case of murder resulting from domestic violence after a 55-year-old man died following an assault by his wife.
The deceased, identified as Julius Rwanyarare, a resident of Nyarurambi Cell, Ikamaro Parish, Muko Sub County, Rubanda District, succumbed to head injuries at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital on March 15, 2025.
According to the Police reports, the couple had a history of domestic violence. On March 13, 2025, at around 2:00 AM, Rwanyarare reportedly returned home drunk and started beating his wife, Estali Nyangire, 51. In the struggle, Rwanyarare picked up a hoe intending to hit his wife, but she overpowered him, seized the hoe, and struck him on the head.
Neighbors, including the LC1 Chairperson Milton Byaruhanga, rushed to the scene and took the injured man to a nearby clinic for medical attention. However, his condition worsened, and he was transferred to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, where he died two days later.
Locals arrested the suspect and handed her over to Muko Police Station. The police registered the case as assault under SD REF: 16/15/03/2025, but after the victim’s death, it was upgraded to murder under Rubanda Police CRB 105/2025.
A team of homicide officers and Scene of Crime Officers visited the scene and documented evidence, recovering the hoe used in the attack. A postmortem examination was conducted, and the body was handed over to the relatives for burial.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Maate Elly confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing.
