79 UPDF Soldiers in Somalia Complete Emergency Battlefield First Aid Training

National: Seventy-nine Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers serving under the United Nations Guard Unit (UNGU) in Somalia have completed a Battlefield Emergency First Aid (BEFA) training course.

The training was conducted by the United Nations Transitional Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) in partnership with the United Nations Support Office. It aimed to improve the soldiers’ ability to give quick and effective medical help in combat situations.

The soldiers were trained in basic life support, managing wounds and injuries, controlling severe bleeding, handling infections, assessing casualties, and treating hypothermia. The practical nature of the training emphasized the importance of fast medical response in reducing deaths and the seriousness of injuries on the battlefield.

This training reflects UPDF-UNGU’s commitment to being well-prepared and supporting international peacekeeping missions in Somalia.
