48 Units of blood collected in Country Radio led blood donation drive.
Rukungiri: 48 individuals on Sunday September 15, 2024 donated blood during a blood donation drive organized by Country Radio 87.6FM Rukungiri.
The event was held at St. Gerald’s Secondary School, Rukungiri.
Emmanuel Mugarura, the manager of Uganda Blood Bank Rukungiri branch and Senior Blood Recruitment Officer for Rukungiri, Mitooma, Ntungamo, and Kanungu districts, revealed that the collected 48 units of blood will be used to save the lives of mothers, children, and other patients across the region.
Mugarura further noted that this will help approximately 150 patients and expressed gratitude to Country Radio for organizing a such helpful event, urging the general public to continue supporting the station.
Katwesigye Bruno, a Laboratory Technician at St Karoli Lwanga Hospital Nyakyibale in Rukungiri Municipality, shared that some attendees also took the opportunity to carryout HIV testing.
He encouraged the public to regularly get tested, emphasizing that the tests are for free at the hospital, and thanked those who participated.
Prosper Tagobya, the deputy Town Clerk for Rukungiri Municipality, representing the blood donors, urged the public to donate blood regularly due to the ever increasing demand for blood by the patients in a dire state.
He also thanked Country Radio for the event, noting that such activities boost local businesses as visitors come to the municipality.
Jackline Tumuheirwe, Station Manager at Country Radio, praised the station’s listeners for their positive response to the blood donation drive.
She also commended those who donated blood and tested their HIV status, highlighting the importance of knowing one’s health status and contributing to life-saving efforts.
