St. Philips Kiigiro Church of Uganda Consecrated in Kakinga Archdeaconry

Rukungiri; St. Philips Kiigiro Church of Uganda in Kakinga Archdeaconry, North Kigezi Diocese, has been consecrated following the completion of renovation and development works at the church.

The church, which was established in 1941 as Kiigiro Church of Uganda Sub-Parish, was consecrated on August 12, by the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe and former Assistant Bishop of Kampala Diocese, Emeritus Bishop Dr. Hannington Mutebi.

The church also commissioned a four-block commercial building intended to generate income to support the activities and development of the sub-parish.

During the ceremony, Bishop Mutebi urged Christians to embrace humility, depend entirely on God, resist pride, and show hospitality to one another.

The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, pledged to work closely with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the government in the fight against corruption, under what he described as “Kisanja No Sleep, Kisanja No Corruption.”

Bishop Asiimwe also welcomed the recently passed law on the opening hours of bars, saying the church is ready to work with the government in implementing measures aimed at encouraging people to work and promoting development.

Meanwhile, the MP for Rubabo Constituency, Hon. Mathias Rwabugumi, urged Christians to work hard and engage in productive activities such as coffee growing to improve household incomes and fight poverty.
