Bishop Asiimwe Urges Christians to Use Wealth to Help the Needy

Rukungiri: Christians have been urged to use their wealth to support the needy instead of boasting about their riches, with a reminder that nothing should take the place of God in their lives.

The message was delivered on November 4, by the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, during a confirmation service for more than 150 Christians at St. Paul’s Church of Uganda, Kasoroza, in Nyakagyeme Archdeaconry.

Those confirmed included pupils from Kasoroza Primary School, Brain Trust Primary School and Kitimba Primary School.

Bishop Asiimwe further cautioned Christians against becoming attached to earthly possessions, saying material wealth eventually fades while the Kingdom of Heaven is everlasting.

He noted that wealth has become an obstacle to some people’s relationship with God, adding that anything a person loves more than God can become their god.

He urged Christians to surrender their lives to God and seek eternal life rather than allowing material possessions to control them.

Meanwhile, the Archdeacon of Nyakagyeme Archdeaconry, Venerable Ronald Natuwhera, thanked the Bishop for attending the confirmation service, saying his presence was a source of spiritual encouragement to the Christians.

He urged parents not to become tired of guiding and caring for their children, warning that after confirmation, the young Christians would face spiritual challenges and temptations.

Natuwhera also challenged the newly confirmed Christians to put into practice the teachings they had received and allow themselves to grow in Christ.

They said they had learned important Christian teachings, including the Apostles’ Creed, the Ten Commandments and the importance of observing the Sabbath day.

The three pledged to put into practice the teachings they had received and remain committed to their Christian faith.
