Youth Gather in Rukungiri for Timothy Camp on Spiritual Growth and Life Skills

Rukungiri: Teenage Africa has launched a four-day Timothy Camp at Kyamakanda Secondary School in Buyanja Town Council, Rukungiri District, aimed at transforming young people and promoting spiritual growth.

The camp, which started on May 6 and will end on Saturday, May 9, 2026, has brought together dozens of teenagers for a program focused on spiritual development, practical skills, and personal transformation. The opening session was held in the school’s main hall.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Robert Tumusiime, Director of Teenage Africa and chief organizer of the camp, said the Timothy Camp is designed to guide teenagers in both spiritual and everyday life.

Dr. Tumusiime emphasized that the camp aims to equip young people with the guidance they need to navigate life. He said participants are being trained in self-belief, rebuilding respect lost through challenges such as drug abuse, and developing creativity that can help them earn a living.

He added that the program mainly targets youth facing social challenges, with the goal of restoring their confidence and teaching practical skills for a better future. He also encouraged parents to send their children to attend the camp, noting that fees are set at 15,000 shillings for day scholars and 20,000 shillings for boarders.

Some former participants say the camp has already made a positive impact on their lives. Shanita Ataho from Kitojo Central in Buyanja Sub-county said the program helped her discover her singing talent and strengthened her prayer life.

Alex Mushabe, from Nyabiteete in Buyanja Sub-county, said the skills he gained are shaping his future and helping him plan for success.

New participants also shared their expectations. Shallon Ninsiima from Kashozi Village in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality, said she hopes to learn good behavior and how to pray.

Actony Abaho from Kibunda Village in Buyanja Sub-county said he joined the camp to learn about personal wellbeing and to improve his lifestyle.

The Timothy Camp is part of Teenage Africa’s ongoing efforts to mentor and empower young people across the region. By combining faith-based teachings with life skills training, the organization aims to help teenagers overcome challenges such as addiction, build self-respect, and create better opportunities for their future.

Dr. Tumusiime expressed hope that the camp will have a lasting impact on the youth of Buyanja Sub-county and beyond.
