Tree Growers Urged to Join Rukungiri Cooperative for Better Earnings and Value Addition
Rukungiri: The Chairperson of Rukungiri Tree Growers and Timber Traders Cooperative Society, Innocent Ninsiima, has called on tree growers and timber traders to join their cooperative in order to benefit from value addition to their products.
While speaking to our news reporter on April 3, during the cooperative’s final meeting for their 5th financial year held at their offices in Kagogo Ward, Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality, Ninsiima said the cooperative has set up fully equipped offices with modern machinery such as a wood dryer and molding machines to support furniture production.
Ninsiima explained that the cooperative aims to become a business center focused on wood value addition. He noted that in the past, middlemen would profit more from tree and timber sales than the actual tree growers. The new value addition initiative is designed to ensure that tree growers benefit more directly from their investment.

He encouraged the public, especially those in tree growing and timber trading, to join the cooperative and take advantage of the available opportunities.
Ninsiima also thanked the cooperative’s committee members for their efforts and dedication, and appreciated all members for their continued support.

The LC3 Chairperson and a member of the cooperative Charles Kahani, also praised the Finnish donors who contributed machinery to the timber yard. He said these machines have helped carpenters with furniture design, wood drying, and other activities, which have improved incomes, created jobs, and produced quality furniture for the community.
