Rukungiri: St. Paul’s Vocational Secondary School, Buyanja, has concluded a three-day Sports Day festival as it prepares to participate in the District Athletics Championships scheduled for June 20, 2026.
The sports activities were held at the school playground in Buyanja Town Council, Rukungiri District. The event, which began on Sunday, featured a variety of competitions including athletics, football, volleyball, sack races, bottle-filling, jumping events, dance sports, and other games.
Participants were grouped into four continental teams: Africa, Europe, Asia, and America.
Europe emerged as the overall winner with 379 points, followed by Africa with 346 points in second place. Asia finished third with 305 points, while America came fourth with 282 points.
The sports festival concluded with a friendly football match between the Senior Four candidates and the school’s Under-17 team. The match ended in a goalless draw, but the Senior Four team won 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

Viola Tukamushaba, a Senior Six student representing Asia, and Agaba Odomalu, a Senior Three student representing Europe, were recognized as the school’s best female and male sports personalities of 2026. Speaking to our reporter, they said that sports activities help students stay physically fit, earn scholarships, and reduce the burden on their parents by enabling them to receive scholastic materials and other rewards through participation.
While awarding prizes to the best performers and winning teams, Games Teacher Frank Muzahura Kakuru thanked the students for their active participation and discipline throughout the sports festival. He also appreciated the headteacher and staff members for organizing the event. He expressed confidence that the school will successfully defend its district athletics title in the boys’ category and perform strongly in the girls’ competitions as well.
The school headteacher, Patrick Tuheisomujuni, who was the chief guest, said the sports festival is organized annually during the second term to help identify and select athletes who will represent the school at the district level. He encouraged students to work hard and defend the boys’ district athletics title that the school won in 2025.
