
Several Feared Dead as YY Coaches Bus Overturns and Bursts Into Flames in Buikwe District
Accident: Tragedy struck on May 5, evening when a bus belonging to YY Coaches overturned and caught fire at Makindu Village along the Kisoga–Nyenga Road in Buikwe District, leaving several passengers feared dead and others injured.
The accident occurred at around 5:00 PM, according to eyewitnesses, when the driver of the Scania bus, which was reportedly speeding, lost control while trying to avoid hitting a boda-boda rider who was crossing the road. The bus overturned several times before bursting into flames.
At the time of the crash, the bus was traveling from Kampala to Mbale District in the Bugisu sub-region of Eastern Uganda.

One of the first people at the scene Paul Kakande, described a horrifying scene, saying the bus rolled multiple times before catching fire. He estimated that only about seven passengers managed to escape through broken windows, while the rest were trapped and burned inside the vehicle.
Emergency responders and police arrived at the scene later to begin rescue efforts and investigate the cause of the accident. The exact number of casualties is yet to be officially confirmed.
Authorities have since warned drivers to observe speed limits and exercise caution, especially along narrow rural roads.
