Rukungiri traders unpleased with decline in customers
Rukungiri: Traders in Rukungiri Central Market have decried the low turn up of customers, days after the Christmas season.
Traders say during the festive season, many customers flocked the market for different items but these days, the number has drastically gone down prompting them to lower prices.
Doreen Natukunda, a fish monger in the Market said during the Christmas season, fish customers were very many but since the beginning of this New Year, they are few.
Natukunda added that the price of fish had gone up high between 25,000 to 50,000 shillings depending on the size during the Christmas season but the prices have currently gone down to between 10,000 to 20,000 shillings.
Another trader only identified as Yassin, who also deals in selling meat in the same market, told our reporter that from 24th December 2024 to 1st January 2025, prices were remarkably stable.
He further revealed that though the prices haven’t changed, the turn up of customers has reduced these days compared to the festive season.
Martin Agaba, a banana vendor disclosed to Country Radio that the biggest Matooke was sold at 35000 shillings during festive days but the price has since reduced to 20,000 shillings.
