Rukungiri Secondary Schools’ Football Competitions Enter Knockout Stage 

Rukungiri: The group stages of the Rukungiri Secondary Schools’ football competitions for both boys and girls, under the Uganda Secondary Schools’ Sports Association (USSSA), have officially concluded. 

Over 40 schools across the district participated in the tournament, which focuses on nurturing young talent aged 20 years and below. 

Speaking at the conclusion of the group stages on March 12, at Kagashe playground in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality, Dan Bahamire Ahimbisibwe, the USSSA Rukungiri Chairperson, commended the discipline of participating teams. He also appreciated head teachers for strictly following the competition regulations.

Bahamire emphasized that the tournament is exclusively for students aged 20 and below, and no school was disqualified or summoned for disciplinary action during the screening process. He announced that the knockout stage will begin on Friday, March 14, with the round of 16 for boys.

Representing Rukungiri District LCV Chairperson Kyomukama Geoffrey, Frank Asiimwe praised schools for nurturing talent and instilling discipline among students. He noted that talent can open doors for students in the future. 

Asiimwe added that the district leadership has supported schools by providing water and glucose to keep players hydrated and energetic. He assured continued support throughout the tournament, including for teams that will advance to regional competitions.
