Rukungiri Residents Celebrate Christmas with Over 77 Animals Slaughtered
Rukungiri: As Christians across the globe celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, residents of Rukungiri District marked the day with feasts, with over 33 cows and 44 goats and sheep slaughtered for the celebrations.
This was disclosed by the Rukungiri District Veterinary Officer, Dr. Johnson Ninsiima, during an interview with our reporter on December 24.
Dr. Ninsiima explained that these numbers only account for animals slaughtered at the main slaughter slab located in Rukungiri Municipality.
He emphasized that all meat sold to the public must bear a stamp verifying it has been inspected and approved by the veterinary office to ensure it is safe for consumption.
Dr. Ninsiima advised the public to check for the official stamp on meat before buying to avoid consuming meat that could be contaminated with diseases. He also called on residents to report anyone selling unstamped meat to protect public health.
At the time of the interview, Dr. Ninsiima noted that his office had not yet received comprehensive statistics on the total number of animals slaughtered across the entire district.
