Rukungiri Municipality Health Inspector Summoned by Police Over Assault Allegations

Rukungiri; Rukungiri Police have summoned a health inspector attached to Rukungiri Municipal Council to assist in investigations into allegations of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

According to a summons issued by the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) at Rukungiri Police Station on June 16, 2026, Asimwe Evas, a Health Inspector at Rukungiri Municipal Council, is required to appear before the Officer in Charge of CID on June 18, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. to record a statement.

The police summons follows a complaint filed by Ainembabazi Dorothy, a tailoring apprentice in Bunura Cell, Rukungiri Municipality.

According to a viral TikTok video circulating on social media, Evas Asiimwe was seen allegedly forcefully pushing Ainembabazi out of the business premises where she is said to be a student apprentice. It is alleged that Asiimwe, together with Rukungiri Municipal Council enforcement officers, had gone to the premises to demand payment for garbage collection services. However, they reportedly found Ainembabazi at the premises instead of the business owner.

Through her lawyers, Beacon Advocates, Ainembabazi alleges that on June 5, 2026, Asimwe physically assaulted, strangled, and humiliated her at her workplace. The lawyers claim that the actions violated her constitutional rights and caused her physical pain, emotional distress, humiliation, and reputational damage.

The law firm has demanded compensation of UGX 50 million for the alleged human rights violations and emotional suffering, an undertaking to avoid similar conduct in the future, and UGX 5 million in legal fees. They have warned that legal proceedings will be started if their demands are not met within 14 days.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
