Rukungiri Municipality Approves UGX 17.8 Billion Budget for 2026/27 Financial Year
Rukungiri: Rukungiri Municipal Council has approved a UGX 17,807,748,000 budget for the Financial Year 2026/27, marking an increase from last financial year’s approved budget of UGX 15,538,852,000.
The new budget reflects an increase of UGX 2,268,896,000, representing a 14.6 percent rise compared to the previous financial year.
The budget was on May 5, presented before the municipal council meeting by the Secretary for Finance, Planning and Administration, Fred Besigye, during a sitting held at the Rukungiri Municipal Council Hall.
The council meeting, which also marked the end of the 2021–2026 council term, was chaired by the Municipal Speaker, Constance Tumusiime.
According to the budget estimates for FY 2026/27, the education sector received the largest allocation of UGX 7.5 billion, representing 42.1 percent of the total budget. Administration followed with UGX 3.8 billion, accounting for 21.4 percent, while the health sector was allocated UGX 2.8 billion, representing 15.8 percent.
The engineering department received UGX 1.46 billion, production was allocated UGX 625 million, while natural resources received UGX 450 million. Smaller allocations went to finance, statutory bodies, community development, planning, internal audit, and trade and industry departments.
The projected revenue sources for the 2026/27 financial year include UGX 1.4 billion from locally raised revenues, UGX 2.8 billion from discretionary government transfers, UGX 13.4 billion from conditional government transfers, and UGX 172 million from other government transfers.
Out of the total budget, UGX 16.8 billion will be managed by the Higher Local Government (HLG), while UGX 940 million will go to Lower Local Governments (LLGs).
