Rukungiri Man on the Run After Allegedly Killing Wife in Domestic Fight
Rukungiri: Police in Rukungiri District are investigating the death of 42-year-old Annet Arinaitwe, who was allegedly killed by her husband, Vanansio Tumuramye, aged 32.
The couple lived in Kabasoni Cell, Nyakitabire Parish, Ruhinda Sub-county, Rukungiri District.
The incident happened in the early hours of April 26, 2025, around 12:30 a.m. at their home.
According to preliminary investigations, on the evening of April 25, 2025, at around 11:00 p.m., Tumuramye and Arinaitwe returned home after spending time socializing at Omurusandasi Trading Center. After eating supper, Arinaitwe reportedly suggested they go back out for more drinking, but Tumuramye refused. They later went to sleep.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, said Tumuramye woke up around midnight and found Arinaitwe missing from their bed. After searching around the home without success, he decided to walk toward Omurusandasi Trading Center. Along Katookye–Kyomera Road, near the junction to their home, Tumuramye reportedly met Arinaitwe on her way back. An argument broke out after she allegedly responded arrogantly when he asked where she had been.
A physical fight followed, and during the struggle, Tumuramye allegedly picked up a stone and hit Arinaitwe on the head, leaving her unconscious.
Police say Tumuramye then called a boda boda rider to help take Arinaitwe to Burombe Health Centre III. However, she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Tumuramye is said to have later abandoned her body along the Ruhinda–Rukungiri road and fled.
Arinaitwe’s body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
