Rukungiri: A total of 250 students have graduated with certificates and diplomas from Rukungiri Institute of Management during its 11th graduation ceremony.

Out of the 250 graduates, 48 received diplomas, while the rest were awarded certificates in various programmes under the School of Business and Humanities and the School of Health Sciences.

The ceremony was held today, April 25, at the institute’s premises in Bunura cell Rwakabengo Ward, Rukungiri Municipality.

While delivering his speech, the Guest of Honour, Prof. Everd Maniple Bikaitwoha, Associate Dean at Kabale University School of Medicine (KABSOM), said graduation is a moment to reflect on the challenges students have overcome to reach this milestone. He emphasized that education is key to success, noting that it can uplift individuals from poor backgrounds and place them on the same level as respected members of society.

He added that the community expects graduates to work hard, start businesses, acquire property, and improve their families’ living standards. He encouraged them to remain prayerful, disciplined, and ready to move beyond their villages in search of better opportunities.

The school director, Samuel Kamugisha, said the institute was founded in 1994 and has now spent 33 years providing education. He noted that the institution aims to upgrade its programmes from certificates and diplomas to degree courses in the future.

He thanked parents for supporting their children’s education and urged them to instill discipline, warning that indiscipline has destroyed many young lives. He also encouraged graduates to hold thanksgiving prayers in their respective churches.

The Chairperson of the Governing Council, Emeritus Ven. Rev. Canon Elisha Wasswa, cautioned graduates against corruption, urging them to avoid greed and work hard for what they earn.

The Principal of the School of Business and Humanities, CPA Ben Niwagaba, and the Principal Tutor of the School of Health Sciences, Ida Mirembe, encouraged graduates to rise with purpose as they enter a competitive world that requires ethical leadership and adaptability.

They also advised those graduating with certificates and diplomas to continue their education by advancing to higher qualifications, including diplomas, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees.
