
Rukiga Woman Murdered After Night Call from Boyfriend
Rukiga: Police in Rukiga District are investigating the mysterious murder of a 35-year-old woman identified as Evelyn Nkanshabe, also known as Shamirah or Kyarenga, a bar worker and resident of Rwabahanze Cell, Muhanga Ward, Muhanga Town Council.
Nkanshabe was reportedly killed on the night of June 2, 2025, in Rubare Town Council, Ntungamo District, after receiving a phone call from her boyfriend only identified as Brian.
According to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, Nkanshabe left home at around 10:00 PM after Brian allegedly called her, saying he wanted to buy her a drink. She never returned home, prompting her concerned relatives to report her disappearance at Muhanga Police Station.
Sadly, her body was discovered the next day along a road in Rubare Town Council. Police picked the body and took it to Itojo Hospital mortuary in Ntungamo District for postmortem.
Both traffic and CID officers from Ntungamo and Rukiga Districts visited the scene along with the Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO). A murder case has since been opened at Rukiga Police Station as investigations continue.
Police are now appealing to the public to come forward with any information that could help trace those responsible for the murder.
