Rotary Club Donates UGX 30M Brass Band to Nyamifura Primary School.

Rukungiri: Nyamifura Primary School in Kabwoma Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub-county, Rukungiri District has received a brass band worth UGX 30 million, donated by the Rotary Club of Kololo. This follows the construction of a four-classroom block at the school by the same club last year.

The handover ceremony took place on May 31, at the school premises.

The headteacher, Rovence Biriho, expressed gratitude to the Old Boys and Old Girls (OBs and OGs) Brigade and the Rotarians for their continued support in transforming the school into a model learning institution. She appealed to the alumni to further support the school by motivating teachers and hiring private teachers to boost learning.

Biriho also highlighted challenges facing the school, particularly the lack of access to clean water. She requested support to install a water harvesting tank to reduce the burden on pupils who currently fetch water from outside the school. She also emphasized the need for a perimeter fence to improve security.

The National Chairperson of Boys and Girls Brigade in Uganda and East Africa Regional Fellowship Chairperson Rev. Canon Evert Mugarura stated that the brass band is intended to instill discipline and motivate pupils academically. He clarified that the band is for the benefit of the learners and not for commercial purposes.

The Chairperson of Head teachers in Nyakagyeme Zone Jackson Kiiza,  who represented the District Education Officer, noted that Nyakagyeme Sub-county has 21 government schools, with Nyamifura Primary School consistently among the best performers in Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). He encouraged the school community to keep up the hard work and aim for even higher academic achievement.

Rukungiri Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mabel Mirembe Karazarwe, appreciated the Rotary Club and the school’s alumni for supporting the Government of Uganda in promoting quality education.

The guest of honor, Moses Mabare Turyatemba, an Old Boy of Nyamifura Primary School and past president of Rotary Club Kololo, reaffirmed the club’s commitment to community service. He encouraged the local community to support Rotary projects for improved service delivery and development.

He further announced that the club will soon provide brass band uniforms to ensure the pupils look smart. He also reminded attendees of Rotary’s earlier pledges to support the school with a computer lab, library, and printer highlighting that the classroom block and brass band have already been delivered.
