Residents of Kacence Parish Decry Poor Health Services

Rukungiri: Residents of Kacence Parish in Nyakishenyi Sub-county, Rubabo County, Rukungiri District, have expressed concern over the poor state of health facilities in the area.

Speaking to our news reporter on March 22, during the Hon. Mathias Mwesigwa Rwabugumi Boda Boda Cup at Nyakishooroza Playground in Nyakishenyi Sub-county, residents including Nestori Arinaitwe, Obed Tukunda, and Gillian raised complaints about inadequate health facilities, a shortage of essential drugs, and delays in medical services, which they say have led to unnecessary deaths.

They also highlighted the lack of midwives and accused some doctors and nurses of negligence, resulting in the deaths of pregnant women due to the absence of proper medical checkups.

In response to these concerns, Hon. Mathias Mwesigwa Rwabugumi, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Rubabo County and the Minister of Health for Rukungiri District Local Government, acknowledged the challenges. He explained that as the District Health Secretary, he oversees the distribution of medicine at the district level but cannot personally procure drugs from the national ministry.

He attributed the delays in drug delivery to insufficient local government funding and the inability of elected leaders to effectively lobby for improved healthcare services at the national level.
