Residents decry stink in Rukungiri town.

Rukungiri: Residents of Rukungiri municipality have expressed frustration over poor sanitation in Rukungiri town.

These say the town is currently littered heavily despite introduction of new policies by the municipal authorities to address the wanting hygiene.

Residents who spoke to our reporter expressed dismay over the dilapidated buildings in town and the sewer system that has broken down resulting in the stink that is putting their lives at risk.

Lucky Ainomugisha, Shivan Niwabine and Jenifer Kembabazi, all business women in Rukungiri town who are discontented, urged the municipal authorities to enhance public sensitization efforts for the adaptation of the new system and enforce compliance where necessary.

Edward Ndyabahika, the Assistant Health officer for Western division Rukungiri municipality on Tuesday January 2025 arrayed residents fears and called on the public to embrace the new garbage collection guidelines to ensure cleanliness and development within their area.

Last year, Rukungiri municipal Authorities hired Home clean services, a private contractor to collect garbage in Rukungiri town under the public-private partnership deal.

However residents say they are yet to see the impact created by this partnership since low cleanliness levels has remained an issue in town.
