RDC Nsubuga Predicts Over 90% Victory for NRM in Rukungiri in 2026 Elections

Rukungiri: The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Rukungiri, Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, has expressed confidence that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) will win by over 90% in Rukungiri District during the 2026 general elections.

Nsubuga made the remarks on May 6, during an interview with our reporter at Kagunga Cell, Kigaga Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub-county, at the main polling station of the Minister for Security, Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu. Muhwezi was elected unopposed as the Chairperson of the NRM Veterans League at the village level.

The RDC noted that during his tour of several polling stations in the district, he observed that many LC1 candidates seeking the NRM flag were also unopposed. He said this indicates the trust the people have in NRM leaders and shows the party’s dominance over opposition groups in the district.

He attributed this trend to the visible development brought by the NRM government, including the extension of water and electricity to villages, construction and renovation of schools, road rehabilitation, and implementation of government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga.

Nsubuga said residents are now comparing the current NRM-led Rukungiri with the past under opposition leadership and have realized the benefits of working with the government.

He emphasized that in the last four years, the NRM government has implemented many projects in the district, thanks to the teamwork between district leaders such as the Chief Administrative Officer, LC5 Chairperson, and the RDC’s office.

Nsubuga concluded by urging residents to actively participate in voting for leaders who will promote development in their communities. He warned that failure to vote may result in the election of unqualified leaders, which could hinder progress in Uganda.
