Police Urge Strong Community Partnership to Improve Security in Rukungiri

Rukungiri: Police officers in Rukungiri have been encouraged to work closely with the community as a key way of maintaining law and order.

The message was delivered on April 24, by Regional Police Commander (RPC) Alex Wabwire during the end-of-year party for Rukungiri police officers, held at Rukungiri Inn Hotel in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.

Wabwire urged the public to cooperate with police and work together as a team to develop the community. He also emphasized the importance of education for both boys and girls, noting that education is a strong foundation for the country and requires commitment from everyone.

Rukungiri District Police Commander (DPC) Brian Ampaire thanked the Minister of Security Jim Muhwezi Katugugu for supporting the function with 2 million shillings. He also appreciated the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the business community for their support.

Ampaire pledged to strengthen cooperation between police and the community, emphasizing that local residents play a vital role in identifying what happens in their areas. He urged the public to respect law and order for the benefit of their families.

The Assistant Registrar of Rukungiri High Court, Hellen Atigo, who represented the High Court Judge, criticized the laxity of some local leaders in drafting and implementing by-laws. She called on them to work closely with police to identify and take action against wrongdoers.

Deputy Resident District Commissioner Wilberforce Ongom Ahimbisibwe, representing Resident District Commissioner Bron Kikashemeza, urged police officers to grant bond and bail to suspects, noting that bond is a constitutional right.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Rukungiri Business Community, Chrysostom Byaruhanga Rwakana, asked the DPC to install security cameras in Rukungiri Municipality as a way to improve security.
