Police breaks silence on Rukungiri double murder.

Rukungiri: Police have finally broken silence over the double murder incident in Rukungiri district, describing it as ugly.

On the night of 15th  December 2023, Residents of Kyanika B cell in Ndago Parish, Nyarushanje sub County in Rukungiri District, were shocked when a horrifying incident left two dead and three injured, causing an ongoing investigation by police.

The now deceased include 54 year-old Twesigye Harriet Jane and Aijuka, a 2-year-and-6-months old child to Akanyijuka Darius alias Budori and the injured are Akanyijuka Adah 22, Ayebazibwe Bibiana 14 and Muhereza Ignitius 10, all residents of Kyanika B cell.

During the night hours of the fateful day, Tabaruka Bruno, sleeping in a separate house, was awakened by cries for help from Muhereza Ignitius, Ayebazibwe Bibiana, and Akanyijuka Adah. Rushing to the scene, he discovered the three victims bleeding profusely in the compound, according to Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate.

The victims revealed that they were attacked by Akanyijuka Darius alias Budori, who shared the same residence with them. Upon entering the house, Tabaruka found Twesigye Harriet Jane and Aijuka lifeless in the same bedroom, while Budori was discovered in a different room, severely injured and in a pool of blood.

Maate adds that Tabaruka quickly sought help from the area Chairperson LC1 Mugarura Francis, who mobilized transportation to rush the victims to Kisiizi Hospital and the incident was reported to Rubabo Police station.

Upon police intervention, a sharp panga with suspected bloodstains was found in the possession of the suspect, Akanyijuka Darius alias Budori. 

Police detectives examined and documented the crime scene, statements from witnesses were recorded and the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for postmortem examination. 

Meanwhile, Akanyijuka Darius alias Budori, in critical condition, was transferred to Rwamahwa Health Center IV for medical attention.

The Rubabo police station has registered a case CRB 170/2023 involving the murder of two individuals and the attempted murder of three victims. 

Maate confided to our reporter that inquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of this tragic event. More details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
