PFF Members in Rukungiri Mark Besigye’s 70th Birthday with Prayers for His Freedom

Rukungiri: Members of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) in Rukungiri District have celebrated the 70th birthday of Kizza Besigye, calling for prayers for his freedom.

The celebrations were held on April 22, 2026, at the PFF offices in Rukungiri Municipality.

Speaking at the event, the PFF Vice Chairperson for Rukungiri Municipality, Honest Tushemereirwe, said the celebration was organized to mark Dr. Besigye’s milestone and to raise awareness about his continued struggle for political change.

Tushemereirwe said members are thankful to God, noting that since Dr. Besigye’s arrest, he has remained faithful and continues to rely on prayer. He urged all PFF members to keep praying for him, expressing hope that he will one day regain his freedom.

The office assistant and godfather to Dr. Besigye, Lamech Barihozaki, also appreciated the celebration. He spoke about Dr. Besigye’s resilience, mentioning his safe return after an alleged abduction in Kenya and his strength despite claims of torture.

Barihozaki encouraged PFF members to remain united and continue supporting Dr. Besigye, especially through prayer.

Meanwhile, the Speaker for Western Division in Rukungiri Municipality, Mathias Kamusiime, said the celebration was important because Dr. Besigye has been a strong and selfless leader. He described him as a role model who has always encouraged others to lead by example.
