PFF Councilor Innocent Rubarondesa Declares Interest in Rukungiri Municipal Speakership
Rukungiri: The municipal councilor representing Kinyasano Ward, Innocent Rubarondesa of the opposition People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), has expressed interest in contesting for the position of Speaker of Rukungiri Municipal Council for the 2026–2031 term.
In an interview with our reporter on May 14, Rubarondesa said that his party selected him to contest on the PFF ticket and expressed confidence that he will win the seat.
Rubarondesa explained that if elected Speaker, he intends to continue being the voice of the people by ensuring fairness and balance during council sessions. He said he will chair council meetings without bias and promote inclusiveness in decision-making by giving every councilor an opportunity to contribute.
He also promised to provide fair leadership and closely monitor government programs and projects to ensure value for money and improved service delivery to the public.
Rubarondesa called upon the elected Rukungiri Municipality councilors to support and vote for him during the speakership election.
The newly elected Rukungiri Municipality mayor Boaz Matita and councilors are expected to be sworn in on May 22, 2026. During the same function, the municipality will also bid farewell to outgoing Mayor Charles Makuru, who has completed 30 years of leadership service, together with other outgoing councilors.
