Muslims Celebrate Eid al-Fitr After 29 Days of Fasting

Kampala: Muslims across Uganda are celebrating Eid al-Fitr today March 30, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The celebration follows the sighting of the new crescent moon last evening, in line with Islamic teachings. Unlike in 2024, when fasting lasted 30 days, this year, Muslims observed 29 days of fasting, which is permissible under Islamic law.

According to Dr. Sheikh Ziyad Swaleh Lubanga, the Director of Sharia at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), national prayers will be held at Gaddafi Mosque starting at 9 a.m. The prayers will be led by the Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje.
