Museveni Loses Rukungiri Municipality Speakership Race
Rukungiri: The District Councillor for Kinyasano Ward, Innocent Rubarondesa Museveni of the PFF party, has lost the race for Speaker of Rukungiri Municipal Council to former Speaker Constance Tumusiime of the NRM.
The election was held on May 22, at Riverside Hotel in Rukungiri Municipality during a council sitting that included the swearing-in of Mayor Boaz Kansiime Matita and the newly elected municipal councillors. The council also conducted elections for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, as well as the nomination and approval of members of the Municipal Executive Committee.
Tumusiime secured 16 votes against Museveni’s 12 votes, earning a return to the speakership position. She will now preside over the affairs of the newly constituted Rukungiri Municipal Council.
In the race for Deputy Speaker, Innocent Muhwezi of the NRM emerged victorious after defeating PFF Youth Councillor Annitah Atukunda. Muhwezi garnered 18 votes, while Atukunda received 9 votes.
The elections marked the completion of the formation of the new leadership structure of Rukungiri Municipal Council following the swearing-in of the newly elected leaders.
