Minister Jim Muhwezi Launches Kirehe–Nyakinengo Road Rehabilitation in Rukungiri

Rukungiri: The Minister of Security, Major General Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, has launched the rehabilitation of a 9.2-kilometre road from Kirehe to Nyakinengo in Nyakagyeme Sub-county, Rujumbura County, Rukungiri District.

While addressing a gathering of civil society members and residents on June 9, Jim Muhwezi’s political assistant, Isaac Kaharuza, revealed that the road project will cost 21 million shillings. He said the road aims to improve connectivity and raise awareness about the poor state of road safety in the area.

Isaac urged residents to take good care of the road once completed, emphasizing that joint efforts between the government and the local community are vital to maintaining its quality and extending its lifespan.

The LC3 Chairperson of Nyakagyeme Sub-county Godfrey Mubangizi, together with the LC1 Chairperson of Kishanda 2 Village Bernard Bineoburamu, confirmed the start of the roadwork.

Residents, including Fred Twiziregye, Glorea Ayesiga, and Narongo Shira, expressed gratitude to Minister Jim Muhwezi for the project. They said the road is critical for transporting goods such as coffee, bananas, and other produce, and that improved infrastructure will positively impact their daily lives.
