Man Arrested in Rukungiri Over Alleged Defilement of His Two Daughters, Youngest Reportedly Found HIV Positive

Rukungiri: A 40-year-old man, Titus Kusiima, a resident of Kinyamahwa Cell, Kinyamahwa Parish in Nyakagyeme Sub-county, Rukungiri District, has been arrested after being accused of sexually abusing his two biological daughters.

The victims, aged 7 and 12, whose identities are withheld because they are minors, are said to have been subjected to repeated abuse by their father. The children have been living with him since their mother reportedly separated from him and left them in his care.

The case was uncovered on April 14, 2026 at around 3:00 pm when a concerned resident noticed the younger girl walking with difficulty and became suspicious. Upon being questioned, the child reportedly disclosed the alleged abuse, prompting immediate intervention from the community.

Kinyamahwa Parish councillor Atanansi Atuheire through a phone interview with our news reporter on April 16, stated that the case is under investigation and emphasized the need for continued community vigilance to protect children, especially those living in vulnerable home situations.

Another resident, Rovence Korugyegye, said the children confided in members of the community, alleging ongoing abuse by their father over a long period. Community members further reported that they became more concerned after noticing signs that raised suspicion, which led them to intervene.

She added that on Wednesday, April 15, the two children were taken for a medical check-up, and the 7-year-old girl was found to be HIV positive, which is suspected to have been contracted from her father.

The suspect is currently detained at Rukungiri Central Police Station. By press time, police had not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
