Maj Gen Muhwezi Calls for Focus on Service Delivery in New Parliamentary Term

Rukungiri: The elected Member of Parliament for Rujumbura Constituency and Security Minister, Rtd Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, has called on Ugandans to focus on service delivery as the new parliamentary term begins.

Speaking shortly after his swearing-in on May 14, Muhwezi said the country is now ready to move from delayed plans to the full implementation of government programs.

He explained that the previous parliamentary term faced several challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, international conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war, and destructive weather conditions like floods that damaged roads and other infrastructure in different parts of the country.

According to Muhwezi, the damaged roads affected transport and slowed service delivery, while limited equipment and machinery delayed rehabilitation works.

He said infrastructure development and household income generation will remain key priorities in improving Uganda’s economy. He added that the government will also focus on reducing unemployment through value addition to raw materials such as coffee and minerals.

Muhwezi further noted that processing raw materials locally will create more jobs for young people and help communities benefit from growing industries.

He urged citizens to actively participate in national development, describing the new term as a “term of no sleep.” He also encouraged residents of Rujumbura Constituency to properly use government programs such as PDM and Emyooga by investing the funds in productive activities that can improve community development.
