
Kifunjo Residents Raise Alarm Over Nighttime Thefts, Call for More Security
Rukungiri: Residents of Kifunjo Cell, Eastern Division in Rukungiri Municipality, are expressing growing frustration over a rise in theft targeting people traveling from Rukungiri town to Kifunjo village.
Speaking to our news reporter on June 10, residents including Nabasa Godfrey and John Turyahikayo revealed that the increasing cases of theft are threatening community safety and disrupting daily life. They are now calling for urgent security measures to address the situation.

The NRM Chairperson and LC1 Defence Secretary for the area Enoch Birungi, also known as General, said the local leadership is planning to launch community patrols to curb the rising theft cases. He urged police to cooperate with them to effectively handle the situation. Birungi stressed that a joint effort between the community and security agencies will help improve safety in the area.

In support of this initiative, the LC1 Chairperson of Kifujo Cell Alex Karumuna, confirmed that most theft incidents occur between 11:00 PM and 4:00 AM. He described this as a vulnerable time for residents, especially those traveling alone or in isolated spots. He noted that thieves take advantage of the low visibility and limited movement during these hours to carry out their crimes.
