Kabale university officially takes over the dissolved Rukungiri PTC.
Rukungiri: Kabale university has officially taken over the dissolved Rukungiri primary teachers college (PTC).
In a function held at the college premises located in Nyakeina parish of Buyanja sub-county on Thursday, the college leadership handed over tools to Kabale university officials led by the vice chancellor professor Joy Kwesiga.
It should be remembered that Rukungiri primary teachers college was among the colleges that were phased out by the government in a bid to implement the new teachers’ education policy.
Speaking at the function, Rt Rev Onesimus Asiimwe, the bishop of North Kigezi diocese which was the college’s foundational body said they receive Rukungiri PTC take over by Kabale University as a blessing.
He said the university will bring development in the district through creating jobs for the community members and providing a readily available market for the goods produced in areas surrounding it.
The bishop asked the university leadership to uphold the College principles and core values of integrity, unity and Godliness.

On his part, the Rukungiri district LCV chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama said they will work hard to support the university and asked parents to change their mindset of thinking that for one to be successful in education, he must study from Kampala.
He said many people have studied from local tertiary institutions and come out successful, rallying parents to bring their children to this campus once it opens.

Professor Joy Kwesiga, the Kabale university Vice chancellor commended the stakeholders who made the takeover successful.
She told our reporter shortly after the handover function, that the university is currently waiting for accreditation from the National council for higher education to officially start conducting lectures.

Dr. Annet Mugisha Kajura, a commissioner from the ministry of education and sports assured the university of the ministry’s support and called for quality education at the campus.

The chairperson board of governors for the dissolved Rukungiri teachers college Canon Sabiti Wilson Mahirane said they asked the government to transform the College into a University after the government took a decision to phase out most of the primary teachers colleges of which Rukungiri PTC was one of them.
