Health Training Institutions Gear Up for Interhealth Sports Competitions in Kigezi Region
Rukungiri: As a way of preparing for the upcoming Interhealth competitions in the Kigezi region, students from various health training institutions have been urged to stay disciplined and put in their best efforts with unity, so they can win all the trophies ahead of them.
The Principal of Karoli Lwanga Institute of Health Sciences Nyakibale Florence Birungi, which is the host institution, made these remarks on April19, during a press conference held at Karoli Lwanga Hospital, Nyakibale.
Birungi announced that the games will take place from 2nd to 4th May 2025, with matches being played at Kagashe Playground, St. Gerald’s Playground, and the Karoli Lwanga Institute playground. Athletic competitions will be held at Rukungiri Main Stadium.
She emphasized that the host school is well-prepared for the event. They will also be offering free health services, including hypertension checks, minor illness treatment, and health education.

The Regional Coordinator for Interhealth Training Institutions in Kigezi sub region Naboth Natamba, said the competitions will involve both male and female students. He noted that the games will include football, volleyball, netball, handball, woodball, and mind games such as draft, chess, and scrabble.
Natamba revealed that seven institutions will participate in the competition. These include Karoli Lwanga Institute of Health Sciences as the host, Kisiizi School of Nursing and Midwifery in Rukungiri, Ntungamo College of Nursing and Midwifery, Kabale College of Nursing and Midwifery, Rugarama School of Nursing, Mutorere School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Uganda Nursing School Bwindi.

The boys’ sports captain Norbert Muhwezi and the girls’ sports captain Julian Amutusimire at Karoli Lwanga Institute of Health Sciences, expressed their excitement about their school hosting the competitions. They pledged to give their all in the games so they can win trophies for their school and leave a lasting legacy.
