Former Country Radio Journalist Cosbert Amanya’s Father Laid to Rest in Mitooma
Mitooma: The late 82-year-old Eliabu Mpabaitsi, father of former Country Radio journalist Cosbert Amanya, now working with Tayari Media, has been laid to rest at his ancestral home in Mitooma District.
Mpabaitsi, who was born on November 15, 1944, died on May 8, 2026, at Mulago National Referral Hospital after battling a stomach illness suspected to be ulcers. He had been admitted for a long period while receiving treatment.
The deceased was buried at Kabuguruka Cell, Katunda Parish, Mitooma Sub-county in Mitooma District.
While speaking on behalf of the children, Obed Mpabaitsi said their father left behind 24 children, 60 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He explained that the deceased joined the army on November 30, 1964, before retiring in 1979. After retirement, he developed a lung disease which he battled with for 32 years.

According to the family, Mpabaitsi developed a stomach illness in May last year and was discharged from hospital in September after treatment. In March this year, he reportedly fell and suffered a hip injury. Before he could fully recover, the stomach illness returned.
The family said doctors at Mulago carried out several tests, including cancer examinations, but all results turned out negative. Medical workers later advised the family to take him back home after treatment efforts failed, but the children requested that he remains under hospital care.
Obed added that on Friday, May 8, his father’s condition worsened before he passed away at Mulago Hospital. He thanked everyone who prayed for, visited and supported the deceased during his illness.
The four widows, including Joy and Norah Mpabaitsi, described the deceased as a caring and loving husband who valued his family.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s elder brother, 95-year-old Elisam Ntundubire, described him as a responsible man who cared deeply for his family. He urged the younger generation to always seek guidance from elders and preserve family legacies by raising families of their own.
