Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe Hails Dr. Kizza Besigye, Calls for National Prayers for His Release

Rukungiri: The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, has praised Dr. Kizza Besigye for his support towards church activities and called upon Ugandans to pray for his release from jail.

Bishop Asiimwe made the remarks on April 27, during his second anniversary celebrations as Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, held at the Conversion Center at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano in Rukungiri Municipality.

The thanksgiving event was organized to raise funds for the completion of the cathedral church, which is still under construction. Bishop Asiimwe noted that Dr. Besigye contributed 900 bags of cement towards the project before he was arrested. He said Besigye had been expected to attend the function but could not due to his detention.

Bishop Asiimwe emphasized that as a church leader, he serves all people equally without segregation and that his role is to unite everyone regardless of religion, tribe, race, or political affiliation. He asked the public to understand the work of clergy when they pray for people of different backgrounds or political sides.

The main preacher, the former Bishop of Kigezi Diocese, Emeritus Bishop George Bagamuhunda, commended Bishop Asiimwe for organizing the thanksgiving and remembering God.

He reminded Christians that it is not by human knowledge or efforts that they succeed, but by God’s grace, and urged them to always be thankful for the gift of life.
