Aspiring Rukungiri Woman MP Annah Nuwagaba donates water tank to Katonya residents.
Rukungiri: The aspiring candidate for the Rukungiri district Woman Member of Parliament seat Annah Nuwagaba Tumuramye has donated a 5000-liter water tank to residents of Mundeba trading center in Ruhonwa cell, Katonya parish, Nyakishenyi sub-county in Rukungiri district.
This timely intervention aims to alleviate the arduous daily trek endured by locals who have been walking about 2 kilometers to fetch water from a borehole located at the Rukungiri-Kanungu boader.
Expressing gratitude after receiving the tank on Friday July 5, 2024, residents commended Nuwagaba for the kind gesture and promised to support her in the forthcoming elections.
Owunyesiga Jackline Turyahikayo, a resident of the same area thanked Nuwagaba for her proactive stance in addressing community needs even before assuming office.
However, she highlighted the challenges faced by the elderly and pregnant women because of trekking long distances in search of water, emphasizing that one tank may not suffice the 78 households in their village.
The chairperson of traders in Mundeba trading center Ninsiima Pauson said for many years, political leaders have been giving them empty promises but is optimistic in Nuwagaba.
While handing over the tanks to residents, Nuwagaba’s political aides Mushabe Esau and Evart Muhwezi underscored her commitment to service delivery, emphasizing her dedication to effecting tangible change rather than mere governance.
They encouraged locals to explore sustainable water solutions, proposing a project to pump water from the valley to the hill, ensuring year-round access beyond the seasonal benefits of rainwater collection.
