A section of Buguma Cell Residents in Rukungiri Launch Community Campaign to Repair Kafunjo Bridge and Roads.
A section of Residents of Buguma Cell, Nyabiteete Parish in Buyanja Subcounty, Rukungiri District, have resorted to a community work campaign to repair Kafunjo Bridge and improve roads in their area.
This bridge connects the two parishes of Nyabiteete and Nyakiina in Buyanja Subcounty. Residents claim it is the best and shortest route for transporting produce from Kitojo and Nyabiteete to Nyamayenje Monthly Market.
Fred Muhumuza , the General Secretary for Buguma Cell, and Alex Ahirwe , a fellow resident on October 2 noted that the bridge has posed a major challenge, especially for children attending Kafunjo Primary School. During the rainy season, the bridge often floods, and they highlighted the tragic loss of a pupil’s life while crossing the bridge due to the overflowing water.
Albert Mugisha Rwamugaata, the district councillor representing Buyanja Subcounty, expressed gratitude to the residents for embracing the community work campaign and showing patriotism. He also pointed out that government resources, such as tractors, are limited. Therefore, he encouraged residents to take ownership of their communities through such initiatives, as they are the ones who will benefit from the improved roads.
