A 21-year-old student Commits Suicide on Easter Sunday in Kabale

Kabale: A 21-year-old student of Solberg College has died by suicide on Easter Sunday in Kabale District.

The deceased has been identified as Kiconco Nikita, a resident of Rutoma Cell, Nyabikoni Ward, Central Division in Kabale Municipality.

According to the school’s Head Teacher, Denis Tumwesigye (44), Kiconco was among about 60 students who had remained at school while others left for the Easter holiday.

Tumwesigye explained that in the morning of April 20, the students left for prayers at Nyabikoni Church of Uganda at around 10:30 AM, leaving only two students behind, Kiconco Nikita and Alice Tusiime each in separate dormitories. Kiconco had reportedly said she was unwell and on medication.

Tumwesigye said that when the students returned from church at around 1:00 PM, they found Kiconco’s lifeless body hanging from the roof, with a rope tied around her neck.

Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident. He stated that a case file of suspected suicide was opened at Kabale Police Station.
