Religious Leaders in Rukungiri Call for Love, Sharing, and Faith as Christmas is Celebrated

Rukungiri: A section of religious leaders in Rukungiri District have called upon Christians to embrace love, sharing, and faith as they celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25.

The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, encouraged Christians to use Christmas as an opportunity to love one another, share with those in need, and provide a helping hand to the less fortunate.

He delivered this message during a church service at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano in Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality. Bishop Asiimwe emphasized that Christmas is not about parties, food, and festivities but about God fulfilling His promise by coming to save humanity in the form of baby Jesus.

At Christ the King Catholic Parish, Dean of Nyakibale Catholic Parish Rev. Fr. Julius Turyatorana, highlighted Jesus as the savior of the world. He noted that anyone who believes in Him will never perish. Rev. Fr. Turyatorana described Christmas as a family celebration, praying for peace in homes and urging people to love one another while fulfilling their responsibilities within their families.

At God’s Embassy Ministries in Rukungiri Municipality Bishop Onesimus Ngoboka, reminded Christians that Jesus was named Emmanuel, meaning God is with us. He urged believers to trust God in all circumstances, because true peace comes only through Him.

Rev. Ronald Natuhwera, serving in the Bishop’s office at North Kigezi Diocese, preached at All Saints Church in Rukungiri Municipality. He expressed concern about the growing trend of people neglecting church services due to busy schedules or trivial excuses. He warned that people often forget God’s provision until it’s too late, emphasizing the importance of dedicating time to worship.

At Rukungiri Community Church, Pastor Elisha Kakwerere encouraged Christians to celebrate Christmas meaningfully by helping the needy. He urged them to provide food, clothes, and school fees to those less fortunate as an expression of God’s love.

Preaching at Yakobo Orikwera Buhandagazi COU Parish in Nyabitete Archdeaconry, Buyanja Subcounty, Rev. Syson Gumisiriza advised Christians to accept Jesus Christ as their savior for everlasting life. He cautioned against using the Christmas season to resolve personal disputes or engage in harmful practices like witchcraft, which undermine the true spirit of the celebration.

The Archdeacon of St. Paul’s COU in Kasoroza Archdeaconry, Nyakagyeme Sub County, Ven. Eldard Kashanje, urged Christians to be content with what they have and repent of their sins. He condemned hypocrisy among believers, reminding them of God’s boundless power and love through the gift of His son, Jesus Christ, to bring light into the world.
