Rukungiri Municipality Receives UGX 900 Million for Health and Education Projects
Rukungiri: Rukungiri Municipality has received UGX 900 million from the Central Government to support infrastructure development in the health and education sectors.
The Rukungiri Municipality Mayor, Boaz Kansiime Matita, revealed this on Thursday November 5, while delivering his State of the Municipality address during the 3rd Council Meeting of the 2026/2027 financial year held at the Municipal Council Hall.
Matita said UGX 400 million had been allocated to Rukungiri Health Centre IV to support the completion of the maternity facility and improve healthcare service delivery in the municipality.
He also announced that the UPDF Engineering Brigade team, which was assigned to construct a block at Rwakabengo Health Centre III, had finally arrived and was expected to start construction works on Friday.
However, the Mayor expressed concern over challenges affecting some health facilities, including Katwekamwe, Marumba and Karangaro Health Centre II, which still lack electricity connectivity.

He noted that the facilities also lack staff quarters, while Katwekamwe Health Centre II needs an additional or properly constructed toilet facility to improve service delivery.
In the education sector, Matita said St. Gerald’s Secondary School had received UGX 350 million to support the completion of its multipurpose hall, with possible provision of furniture and improvement of kitchen facilities depending on the prepared Bills of Quantities.
He added that Kitazigurukwa Primary School had received UGX 150 million towards the construction of staff houses.
The Mayor urged the technical team, school management and other stakeholders to ensure proper utilisation of the funds, close supervision of construction works and value for money.
On the construction of the Municipal Administration Block, Matita reported that works were progressing well.
Boaz Kansiime Matita expressed optimism that most of the finishing works on the first floor, except the flooring, would be completed using an additional UGX 70 million that had been advanced to the contractor towards the end of the previous financial year instead of being returned to the Consolidated Fund.
Kansiime called for continued cooperation among council members and technical staff to improve service delivery and promote development in Rukungiri Municipality.
