Over 250 Christians Confirmed at St Peter’s Kashenyi Church of Uganda

Rukungiri: More than 250 Christians have been confirmed in the Anglican faith at St Peter’s Church of Uganda, Kashenyi Archdeaconry, in Ruhinda Sub-county, Rukungiri District.

The confirmation service was led by the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe. The service also included prayers for Senior Six candidates of Kashenyi Secondary School ahead of their Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations, which are scheduled to begin on November 9.

In his sermon, Bishop Asiimwe urged Christians to surrender all their burdens to Christ, saying that God knows everything they go through.

He challenged church leaders to live according to Christ’s teachings and represent Him through their actions rather than hiding behind their church collars.

The Bishop further reminded Christians that God sees everything they do, including things they believe are done in secret.

He emphasized that receiving Christ as a personal Lord and Saviour should bring a change in one’s life. He urged believers to share the goodness of God with others, not only on Sundays but also in their communities and places of residence.

Bishop Asiimwe added that salvation begins with an individual, calling upon Christians to personally live according to the teachings of Christ.

Meanwhile, Maama Florence Asiimwe a wife to the Bishop, urged the newly confirmed Christians to open their hearts and allow Christ to guide them in their Christian journey.

Maama Florence also called upon parents to remain vigilant and guide their children, warning that after confirmation, young people may face temptations that could lead them away from Christ.

She particularly cautioned against alcohol and drug abuse, urging parents to protect their children from behaviours that could affect their Christian lives.

The Archdeacon of Kashenyi Archdeaconry, Ven. Edison Muhirwe, thanked the Bishop for confirming the Christians and called upon parents to continue bringing their children to church so they can grow spiritually through the word of God.

He urged parents to help their children develop love for the church, noting that they are the future of the church and need proper guidance in their Christian journey.

Ven. Muhirwe revealed that the confirmants were drawn from Kashenyi Secondary School, St. Raphael Secondary School, Kashenyi Primary School, Kashenyi Model Primary School and the wider Kashenyi Archdeaconry community.

Speaking on behalf of the confirmants, Shine Asiimire, Isabella Nankunda and Blair Akankwasa thanked their parents for introducing them to Christianity at an early age and supporting them throughout the confirmation process.

They said they had learnt important Christian teachings, including how to live a Christ-centred life, the Apostles’ Creed and the Ten Commandments.

The three pledged to put into practice the lessons they had received and remain committed to their Christian faith.
