Ministry of Works Begins Surveying 28-Kilometre Rubabo Road for Tarmac Upgrade
Rukungiri: Engineers from the Ministry of Works and Transport have started surveying and measuring the 28-kilometre Rubabo Road in Rukungiri District ahead of its planned upgrade to low-seal tarmac.
The road starts from Omukihindi in Rukungiri Municipality, passing through Marumba, Nyabiteete, Nyabushenyi, Kimbungu and Omukishanda before ending at Nyarushanje Model Primary School in Nyarushanje Sub-county.
The Rubabo County Member of Parliament, Hon. Mathius Mwesirwa Rwabugumi, who lobbied for the road project, said plans are also underway to survey and measure other roads in Kebisoni Town Council, Buyanja Town Council and along the Kebisoni-Muhanga road.
Rwabugumi urged residents living near the road to cooperate with the engineers to ensure the project is completed smoothly. He explained that the road will be widened and upgraded to low-seal tarmac to improve transport and accessibility.

The Speaker of Rukungiri District Council, Hon. Albert Ahabwe Rwamugata, confirmed the planned road works, saying the Ministry of Works and Transport would undertake the project.
However, Rwamugata warned residents who have encroached on road reserves that they would not be compensated for any property affected by the road expansion.
He thanked Rwabugumi for lobbying for the project, noting that the improved road would ease transport and movement of people and goods in Rubabo County.

The Political Assistant to the Rubabo County MP, Brian Tumukunde, said the road has been in poor condition, especially during the rainy season.
Tumukunde said rehabilitating the road would benefit residents of Rubabo and Rukungiri District at large by making it easier to transport agricultural produce and access essential services.
