Rukungiri District Veterans Receive Hoes from Government to Boost Agriculture
Rukungiri: In Rukungiri district, civilian war veterans from various sub-counties have received hoes as part of a donation sent by the Office of the Prime Minister in mid-December last year.
The government sent 1,000 hoes, which are intended for civilian war veterans, including members of the Front for National Salvation (FRONASA) and other veterans in lower local governments.
The hoes were on January 8, handed over to sub-county chiefs and veterans’ representatives from each sub-county, where the beneficiaries will collect them. According to Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Hillary Agaba, each FRONASA member will receive three hoes, while other veterans from lower local governments will receive two.
Agaba encouraged the chief coordinators of veterans to ensure that the hoes are used properly and not sold. He expressed concern that government-issued resources are sometimes sold and urged the veterans to make use of the hoes for agricultural purposes.

Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, speaking in an interview with our reporter, emphasized that the donation was not because veterans could not afford hoes but to recognize their significant contributions to the nation. He explained that farming is an essential cultural practice in Rukungiri, and the donation could help improve agricultural production and enhance the overall livelihoods of the community.
