Buyanja Sub-county Plans New Matooke Market to Boost Revenue

Rukungiri: Buyanja Sub-county is planning to establish a new Matooke market in Buhandagazi, as a way of generating income to support local development.

This was revealed by the Sub-county Chairperson for Finance, Kaboona Muhumuza, during an interview with our reporter on October 10, 2024 at the Buyanja Sub-county headquarters.

Muhumuza explained that the revenue collected from the new market will be used to address various needs, including the rehabilitation of roads in poor condition, supporting schools that lack essential resources such as furniture, and constructing toilets. The market will be located in Nyabitete Parish, where the Sub-county headquarters will also relocate after the completion of their new building.

The previous market located in Buyanja trading Centre was handed over to Buyanja Town Council after it took over the area where the Sub-county offices were originally located.
