JCRC Rukungiri Holds Marathon to Raise Funds for Bone Marrow Transplant Machine
Rukungiri: The Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) in Rukungiri, in partnership with Galaxy International School Uganda, has held a Bone Marrow Awareness Marathon in Rukungiri Town to raise funds for the purchase of a bone marrow transplant machine.
The marathon attracted JCRC staff, health workers and members of the community, who ran through major streets of Rukungiri to support the fundraising campaign.
The machine is expected to be installed at JCRC Hospital in Lubowa, Wakiso District to help patients who need bone marrow transplants.
Speaking during the event on October 24, Dr. Ronald Nahabwe, who works with Rukungiri District Local Government at Bugangari Health Centre IV, represented the Rukungiri District Health Officer.
Nahabwe said bone marrow transplant services remain limited in Uganda, yet they are important in treating several serious medical conditions.
He highlighted patients with leukaemia, lymphoma, sickle cell disease, severe aplastic anaemia and other bone marrow disorders as among those who may benefit from bone marrow transplantation.
