Rukungiri Lions Club promotes diabetes awareness, donates chairs to health centre
Rukungiri: The Lions Club of Rukungiri has donated six patient chairs and other items to Rukungiri Health Centre IV to improve patient comfort and care, as part of activities aimed at promoting community health and service.
The donation followed a diabetes awareness walk from Nyakibale in Rukungiri Municipality to Rukungiri Health Centre IV, led by the District Governor of Lions Clubs, John Kikanu Byaruhanga, together with other Lions.
Before the walk, the Lions erected a signpost at Nyakibale to increase public awareness of Lions Clubs International and its community service activities.
At Rukungiri Health Centre IV, the Lions also planted trees to conserve the environment and improve the appearance of the health facility.

Speaking after the donation, Club President Juliet Muhwezi thanked God that the activities they had planned had finally been completed. She also appreciated fellow Lions for their efforts and commitment.
Muhwezi said the chairs would help patients get a place to sit while waiting to receive treatment at the health facility.
The Medical Officer of Rukungiri Health Centre IV, Dr Darius Namanya, thanked the Lions Club of Rukungiri for supporting the health facility in both difficult and good times.
He noted that the facility still faces challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, despite receiving large numbers of patients daily. However, he expressed hope that these challenges would eventually be addressed.
Dr Namanya added that the lack of enough seats had been a major problem for patients, revealing that the health centre receives nearly 200 patients every day. He said the donated chairs would go a long way in improving their comfort.
